Thank you, 2008!

Hi, I just wanted to thank you all for being a part of my 2008, for listening to me, when I made sense and when i did not, for being there for me, for reaching out to me even when I seemed too distant, for calming me in the midst of the storm, for helping me to direct my gaze upwards, towards the Son, when I felt that the darkness around me was about to envelope me, for praying for me, for loving me just the way I am, for being you all the time around me, and not some pretentious person, for caring, for understanding, for moving me forward, for loving me, for being my friend. I want to also thank you in advance for ensuring that you attain the goals you set for yourselves for 2009, for becoming the giants I know you are, for drawing closer to God, for making me proud of who you are, and what you have achieved in 2009. I shall play my part and continue to pray for you, try not to matchmake you with each other (am trying my best already!), and try to create more quality time for you, Tha

The Honda CRV...

I saw something terrible today that I cannot even cry... I was in a Bus going to Ketu along Gbagada Expressway, and the driver was overtaken by a fine Honda CRV, silver in color. I was not able to see the person driving, but that didn't stop me from lamenting in my mind that I was still not "allowed" to drive my own Toyota which was being warmed up every morning by my mum's driver. I had barely woken up from my self - pity (*rubbish as it wont make any sense to you, but you can read about it ) only to notice that we were only 5 passengers in the bus. I started pleading the blood of Jesus, and trying hard to blot out all the 'One Chance' stories I had heard from my mind. We had reached the foot of the bridge, almost at Iyana Oworo bus stop, when I heard several shouts. The gala and bottled water boys were running helter skelter. I looked back and saw a tanker rushing down the bridge. It was out of countrol. All the cars in the middle lane swerved towards the r

Internet money geration - IMG101

My brother came home a few days ago from Delta state. He was leaner and darker, and cast more funny jokes. For a day my mum and I just could not stop staring at him, but as usual he put my mind to work. "How can I make twenty thousand naira in three weeks with what I have?" he asked, then added, "Think about it properly. It must be something, I can do, someone that is not so internet savvy." I held my breath - and I have been thinking about it since then. I have sooo many ideas running around in my head! So many in fact that I have decided to treat each individually,on one of my other blogs , and on my site . Each one will have the following paragraphs: a. Name and Description: will contain the name, and the description of the IMG. b. Necessities: will contain what is necessary to run the business e.g bank account, internet access. c. Upfront Costs: will contain the extra costs needed to set up. d. Plan: will contain how to plan time to oexecute the project, and if

Innocent Blood

"Open the door!" he heard someone shout in Hausa. When the shouts would not stop he rose up in alarm, then quickly did a head count as the other people at home came to the living room to ask what was going on. No one was missing. Who dared to make such a ruckus in the staff quarters of the University of Jos? Who had the audacity? He glanced at his two Corper friends, then strolled to the door, sure that the three of them could defend the home and protect his three sisters and mother. Fifteen minutes later, all three young men were lying on the carpet, their heads severed from their necks. The cuts were neat - yes, they were dead. The mother sat on the floor in shock. Her daughters were crying silently. Her only son was dead. The murderers didn't touch her or her daughters. They came to slaughter only the males, they'd said. The last 25 years rolled by in front of her eyes - his conception, his birth, his growth, his progress from kindergarten , to nursery school, to p

Wipe your eyes my Child

Wipe your eyes, wipe your eyes, My Child. What is the use of crying. Clean your tears, clean your tears, my daughter, it brings no solution. But Father, I am all alone. My very life is not even mine to plan. It seems everytime I look up to You with a smile, and say Thank you, there is always some drama waiting to happen around the corner. Everytime I look ahead with bright hope, and plan ahead with such faith, it falls to shambles because of some unforeseen blockade, some unbelievable occurrence. Others walk the same path, and its smooth, their feet barely touching the floor as they hurry by, but mine... my own is full of potholes, of unimaginable limits and delays, some stupid reasons why I cannot move forward. I am tired Father, I am tired. I don't know why my own must be different. Who did I offend before being born? Who is it that I must appeace once and for all so that I can move on without a hitch? What did I do to deserve all this? I know how you feel my Child but it is the

Forward ever

Last week, I got chatting with my ex-boyfriend. Actually he was the first guy I ever dated, and we parted ways because of many issues including the fact that he said he would not marry until he was 40 something (and he's just a year older than me), and I could not wait for that. Anyway, there were other things, other principles I held dear that I refused to give in to, like wearing makeup and dressing up fancy ALL THE TIME ( I didnt see the use of that because I wanted my dressing up to be for special occasions as that way it will be appreciated). I digress. My apologies. We parted ways (I broke up with him - on the internet, and before the comments start flowing in, I have apologized for being so wicked and we are over that) and he didnt speak to me for two years. We are friends now. I have my Vicky and he told me has someone special. In our conversation, he asked me a question - he said something like this: "I hope u still are not having that same mindset you had?" When

OBAMA WINS: HISTORY IS MADE

Image
Thank God for technology - I was on the phone with someone in another state when the results were announced that Barack Obama had won. I ran to the TV and put it to a local channel that had the foresight to show it live (another thanks to technology in Nigeria). The speech was preceded by prayers and that alone is a sign that Christianity was back in control in that country. I have to confess that I cried throughout his speech. Not just because of his words but the enormity of it all. A Kenyan is the next president-elect of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A BLACK-SKINNED MAN was going to rule the WHITE HOUSE. A Black Family was going to be the First family in the world. I cried and sobbed because his words were what we all wanted to hear, words of hope, words of encouragement, and words of affirmation. YES WE CAN. There is no limit to what we can do. Nothing is impossible [for God]. We are here to help each other. We are here to ensure that progress is made. We are here on earth to make

Wedding Day: He who finds

He who finds a wife, has found a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord. The day was filled with soo many things that I love...let me start listing them: I love my cousin's wedding dress, It was a lovely sequinned dress with a sloping wrap that fitted her like a second skin. It had a lovely thin veil that was like cobwebs spun in a pattern, and she was soooo beautiful (am tired of using that word, but it is soo appropriate). I love the cool look her groom was in, the smooth suit, and the lovely smile with tears in his eyes. I love the ties the grooms men were wearing. I love the dresses we had on - so glad I was part of the train. I love the vows they exchanged - I had to fight tears several times during the service. It didnt help that I look so much like the bride and everyone was staring at me and wondering where I sprung from. and you know when I cry - my face just screws up, and I didnt want to spoil the lovely makeup I had on. I love the pictures we took afterwards at the

Engagement Day: A sea of Purple

Friday was....was....I am trying to find the right word to describe how it was. Friday was a lovely lovely day, and the bride was beautiful beyond words. We had so much fun. It turns out I am not the only one that was a bridesmaid for the first time, so it was an experience for me. The engagement party was for 800 people, and it was covered by two television stations (Channels TV, and NTA Network). The bride and the bridesmaids had to wait to be called, in a friend's house, and eventually we entered in style. We had to dance in before the bride, and we had to carry bags around for people to bless her with monetary gifts. The hall was decorated in an african setting, complete with painted gourds and woven palm fronds and local mats on the raised platforms. It was beautiful. I could not stop smiling in happiness, cos we are many that have been praying for this day and it had finally come. She was soo lovely, so beautiful and enchanting in green and gold. The groom's family were f

BIRTHDAY BASH: Bride to be had fun...

Well I knew beforehand that there was going to be a party for the birthday celebration of my cousin, and I was amply prepared. I wanted to have a good time, and I did.The traffic in Lekki is seriously handicapping people o. I magine spending 2 hrs in traffic on a road that barely takes 10 minutes in a normal situation - it is a straight road for God's sake! Something must be done about that road. Someone suggested a fourth mainland bridge but I am not too optimistic about that bridge moving from fantasy to reality in my lifetime so that is out of the question. Anyway, I got home to meet a small crowd of nice people, just chilling and waiting for night to fall more darkly. I ran up the stairs and had a shower, and assumed that the party downstairs was IT.I ate late (8pm is late now you know), and spent some time gisting with other people, thinking that the party would end right there and there in the house at the appropriate 10pm.Boy, was I wrong! At abt 10.30pm, my cousin announced

Three days to go...Numb

We did more exercises last night, and between you and me, I must tell you. I cannot feel my waist down anymore. But I can now run up the pedestrian bridge like I was in the next Olympics team. Progress is sweet. But I still cannot feel my waist.... HELP!!!!!!

Four days to go and....

I moved in to the bride's house yesterday, and spent the evening mixing and mingling with family and (new) friends. The highlight of the night was when all the guests had gone and it remained the bride (to-be), another bridesmaid (lives in Austria and speaks German, French, English and Dutch fluently, named Aero henceforth) and me in the house.I'd commented on Aero's lean physique earlier in the day, only for me to hear that she would be er...'gym instructor' for the bride till Dday. I quickly signed on, but ten minutes after we started doing crunches that night, I was ready to run.Needless to say that my waist down feels like needles have bn stuck in all over, and I can barely breath in (remember I still had to wear my girdle to sleep).I know it will work but I am dreading nighttime already. My waist is on fire!!!

Fitting Day has passed....phew!

Image
Ok, so yesterday, I went for the bridesmaid dress fitting. The first agony was locating the Tailor's shop. I had to reach Ojuelegba before taking a Mushin bus that took me back in the direction I was coming from but on the other side. The shop is called La - Beth, and they are specialists in making women's corporate suits and other stuff. I know she's a professional cos my cousin's mum has been using her services for the past 20 yrs - and believe me, if the lady can satisfy my aunt's impeccable, society-conscious taste, then she's on equal grounds with international designers anywhere. After locating the shop, they had to locate my dress, and then I entered the cubicle to wear it. It looked exactly like what was in the picture, but the arm holes were too oblong, and one pad was missing (Ladies, I didnt know that there were pads for the bra area too. Is that supposed to make the dress more fitted? Or to encourage the braless phenomenon since the nipples are not e

DAY Five: little improvement

I have only lost 2kg. Only 2 kg! This is not it at all! I must be realistic sha. I have not been really serious, but at least I got results. These days I eat only when I am hungry, and I find that really satisfactory. It goes down well. That means I eat only once a day. Still five more days to go. And I need to lose a bit more. I think I will be taking swimming very very seriously. This means I will be swimming throughout sunday. Yes, the whole day! Hmm...Have to pack a few things. Pls pray for me o! The fitting day is drawing nearer! And pls try to understand - its for my own good!

Day One: remaining nine days

Fasting begins! No food or water till 5pm. I have a Gala Meaty to use to break then. Then I wore the girdle to bed last night. Found out I went to the restroom more often that usual. My back is ramrod straight right now, but I will soon adjust, I know. No lunch today.....God pls hear my prayers o!

How to lose weight in ten days

Aim - to lose weight drastically in ten days Reason - my cousin's wedding is in two weeks time, and the measurements for the clothes she bought for me for the occasion are er.....really smaller than I am now (I always wonder how I add these love handles so easily!). To fit into the dress (am in her train), I must lose weight....and quickly! Plan - Well, Let us try the diet of the month, the ...er...one that Jessica Alba follows so strictly.... hold on a second! Of course I am a Nigerian! And of course I will not be following some American or BRitish or Hawaii diet regimen that does not put into consideration the haphazard life we live here in Lagos. I am going to do it my own way. Structure A. PRAYER: My mother is a member of MFM (Mountain of Fire and Miracles) church, and they started their seventy (yes you read 70) days fasting and prayer on Sunday the 12th of October. Now its a simple structure really - You fast till 2pm everyday except for Mondays and Fridays when you break at

I walk....

I don't think I can forget Tuesday the 7th of October 2008 for a long long time. I can still see the scene vividly. I came down a pedestrian bridge that morning, and continued walking in a hurry as I was late for an appointment, when something terrible happened. An okada tried to cross to the sidelane (on a four lane road), when it suddenly overturned, at full speed. The passenger got dragged a few feet before being separated from the bike. The okada rider (as we call them), had jumped and landed a few feet away. I stood frozen in place, praying that the passenger had not died, he sat up slowly, and glanced at his laptop bag a few feet away from where he'd skidded to a halt. That was when I noticed his leg. His left leg had broken....at the shins. That is after the knee...it had broken forward at an unearthly angle...and he sat there watching it. People ran towards him...there was a wail of agony at the incident. I still shudder when I picture it. He was just staring at the leg

His wife took him to a strip club

I got another one and decided to share... Bob works hard at the office but spends two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every Saturday. His wife thinks he's pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club. The doorman at the club greets them and says, 'Hey, Bob! How ya doin?' His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to this club before. 'Oh no,' says Bob. 'He's in my bowling league. When they are seated, a waitress asks Bob if he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser. His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, 'How did she know that you drink Budweiser?' 'I recognize her, she's the waitress from the golf club. I always have a Bud at the end of the 1st nine, honey.' A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her arms around Bob, starts to rub herself all over him and says, 'Hi Bobby. Want your usual table dance, big boy?' Bob's wife, now furious, gra

Drama Queen

I know, when I paused after reading the topic, I tried to see it from a reader's point of view. I'm sure you'll be thinking along this lines: she's about to talk about some chick that loves to act life out, that loves to be the centre of attention 24/7. I am glad to tell you that you are wrong! I am about to lament to YOU about my life! I need to know Why everytime I am about to step up to the next level in my life, its never automatic I need to know why everytime I am supposed to just go through a particular session or phase, its never like everyone else's I need to know why I had to attend 3 primary schools instead of one. why I was not allowed into secondary school from primary 4 and my brother was rushed through why I had to attend two secondary schools why I had to do GCE twice, WAEC once, NECO once, just because I was looking for credit in Chemistry, even though i had As in all the other subjects. why I had to be given a fake score in the JAMB I needed to use

THIRTEEN YEARS AGO

THIRTEEN YEARS AGO "Why wont you talk to him?" Bo asked me with frustration written on her face. She didn't couldnt understand. I liked this guy so I could not possibly talk in his presence. "Ok," Bo said, as we got nearer to his class. "Bring the note and the Milo I'll give him for you, but this is the last time." But of course it wasn't the last. ------ "The holidays are here," whispered Bo on the assembly. She had left her JSS 1j line and come to join me in my JSS1c ,ine so we could chat during the assembly. "I cant wait to go home," I whispered back. "I'll miss you," she whispered. "I'll miss you even more." I replied. "My mum is coming to pick me this time." "Great," replied Bo. "I can meet her finally. Just make sure we see before you go, so I can give you my address." "I dont know anywhere in Lagos" I replied. "Don't worry," Bo soothed w

The Sea of Life

I am in the sea and swimming towards my destiny only a few more meters, it seems I smile as I come closer 'keep swimming' I mutter and in an outward glide my foot gets tied To float I know not how to see what holds me back I bend down tis an anchor, a rope to it is tied and the other end to my foot is ensnared I raise my head above the water and see the shore yonder I must go down to untie myself from this anchor that is keeping me fettered away from my destiny and far from where I want to be. I look around me trying to find help all I can see is nothing but kelp no one close by to hear my cry how to get out of this predicament I know not how the rope tangled to my foot seems tied tighter now! I must find a way out of this Everyone else think all's swell that things are going so well I can't be bothered by their own dilemmas But that's where they are wrong because I'm weighed down wit this ..this Kong! All these issues and no one has even offered to give me a ti

Bras: to wear or not to wear?

I'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE BUT STILL WANT TO SEND A REMINDER TO ALL MY LOVED ONES.... This is primarily for women but husbands can also educate their wives. Do you wear bra for the whole day and even at home? I think we should go bra-free after reading this article. It's a message for your health. Please pass this to all female friends you know. I think it's important to be aware. For years, a lot of articles with regards to the causes of breast cancer point to an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise as the major links

The Power of Fear

Picture this: You are sitting in your room, catching up on some old movies, when you suddenly hear the sound of someone banging your gate (is that English? I meant 'Knocking loudly'). You glance at the time at the edge of the screen, it's 2 a.m. in the morning. The knocking isnt the 'pls open this gate for me I need to get in' kind of knock, no, it's the 'OPEN THIS GATE THIS VERY SECOND YOU MORON' kind of knock. The only dog you have in the compound barks half-heartedly, then stops. Then a few minutes later you hear someone right by your window, walking on what sounds like iron roofing sheets. And it seems the person is not alone, masculine voices, in the dead of the night. What would you do? How would you react? Add to the fact that your family was robbed at Easter and the experience has you shaken even now, over three months after. What would be your first action? I was off the settee in seconds, and had hidden the office laptop (mine was stolen, and t

No fuel everywhere - Teachers on Strike!

Today is a new week and we are currently experiencing the stress of strikes - The National Union of Teachers are on strike, and NUPENG has joined, meaning that fuel is now a scarce commodity, and everyone can feel the tension. The thought of it all brought tears to my eyes, not because I was too stressed (Its a Monday morning - you expect the stress on Mondays), but because I realized that we are only suffering ourselves. Its the masses that are feeling the heat, not the government, and most of all, its the children that are suffering for it. I appreciate the actions of NUPENG, don't get me wrong. What just keeps me wondering is the fact that I don't know when Nigerians will understand that striking will never work, and that our leaders are insensitive to anything educational - we have eight years of experience to prove it. And even after electing a former lecturer to the Presidency, it is still the same. All we should be doing is praying, not practicing 'two wrongs' t

No food for lazy man

Some days ago I was sitting in a commercial bus on my way to Community Development meeting, on Ikorodu road, when I saw a tricycle in front of us with the caption at its back reading "No food for lazy man". I thought about it and shook my head in disagreement. I have many facts to prove otherwise, especially that morning. I boarded a bus heading for Ojuelegba under bridge, and it stopped (of course) along the way, at known bus stops. It stopped at Town planning (opposite Anthony Village), only to be told to step aside by LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority) officials. There were about four of them, and there was also a uniformed official from MOPOL, carrying a rifle and looking very menacing. What was the driver's crime? Nothing that we could put our finger on. Within seconds, they has assigned a plainclothes man to collect the key and drive the bus. We the passengers were left speechless. We tried to evaluate the situation - what was the driver's crime? D

What is the worst that could happen?

Has this thought ever crossed your mind - What is the worst that could happen [in a situation]? Well it crossed my mind two days ago. After a long battle of wills, my mother gave me her car to drive to work. I had complained earlier that the cost of transportation was much for me, and it didnt make sense that my car (which is an automatic, and the best option for the terrible traffic on the island) was just sitting there in the house. I had gotten tired of arguing, so i had just relied on God to help me through, only for my mum to start insisting I drive her car (which is a manual) to work instead. As I was getting onto the Third Mainland bridge, a thought flashed into my head: what is the worst that could happen? And the reply came almost instantly, the car stopping in the middle of the bridge. Thirty minutes later it happened. I thought I was dreaming, and it was not funny at all because it was pouring sheets of rain, in torrents and I could not venture out. Two agberos came out of n

Fasting

According to some scientists online, fasting actually has its pluses - for one it makes you fresher, helps you check your food intake, and also helps your body to burn the stored fat. It also helps your skin glow. But as for me, the major benefit I have seen so far is the fact that my prayers seem to get through the switchboard, through the verification procedures of Heaven, and to the "Yes" zone in lightning speed. Sometimes I don't even have to finish thinking it. It has also helped me to draw closer to Him who must not be toyed with.I am grateful for being among the living! And I am thankful for the fact that my sins are forgiven and wiped away.It makes me extremely sober you know, and there are some passages that really make me sober, and some others make me think hard and long.*sigh....er where were we? Ah..fasting.I recommend fasting and prayer for everyone - it is the perfect solution to that puzzle you have being battling for so long. It is the best antidote to any

NYSC Alawe

I really am tired of waiting and waiting for the monthly allowance that NYSC is supposed to pay me.... that was what was running through my head last week. I was just praying to God for favour, the type that a friend of mine got from baba God that he arranged his flat rent fees from nowhere. Anyway, I got to the LG office to submit my monthly clearance forms, and was trying to figure out how to broach the subject, when one of the ladies just looked at me and asked, "Are you really in a rush?" Of course I said no. She told me to finish the submission process and return to her. It turned out that she wanted bread and milo and milk. See how God works - the women in that office are very unpredictable and some of them were already having moody expressions on their faces. I had even given up on who to approach, when God just put her in my debt. Of course I refused to collect any money from her - what is two hundred naira compared to my three months allowance? beancakes! I went in s

BUS RIDE

One of the quirks about livin in Lagos is the fact that at one point or the other, especially if you don't have a car, you can get caught in the rain. But the way you view the whole situation determines how you will end up. If you get angry at the elements, and start boiling - you will sizzle alone, but if you try to see the comic aspect of it all, like I did yesterday, then your have successfully avoided a high B.P. and reducing your life span by 20% more, unnecessarily. I was already late by the time I joined the queue for VI bus at Tollgate. After waiting for another forty-five minutes, and watching the third Obalende bus load, I walked up to that bus and entered, thinking that I was doing the wise thing to avoid the rain that the dark clouds were predicting. Before we got halfway, the driver parked and brought out a black nylon (or plastic garbage bag, for all the phonerized people), tore it width-wise, and started cellotaping it to the left side of the bus. Needless to say tha

Apology to a friend

Starting from the last line where you said, 'that is all' - No my dear, that is not all We have a lot to talk about, a lot to catch up on, We have a lot to hash up, we have a lot to forgive of each other. We have come a long way, and like trees planted beside each other, we have grown apart. It was inevitable, and inimitable, but the thing is,we are still friends. We have a lot to look back on, together a lot to smile and laugh about, a lot to argue about. There is history for us, and we also have one more thing... We have the future to build a stronger friendship We have tomorrow to ensure that we stay close, we have learnt from the past and we have the rest of our time on earth to ensure that nothing comes in between. We have a long list of memories to weave - our weddings, our children's naming ceremonies and graduations, and a lot more. We have TIME...that is if you are willing to take my hand in friendship again. I'm waiting.....

Forgive us Father as we have forgiven those...

I know all Christians are familiar with that verse. In case you have forgotten, its in the Lord's Prayer: ...and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us... I have been struggling with that verse since Easter Sunday, when my house was robbed by four armed young men. I look back at that day and wonder where we had gone wrong. Everything was the same careful routine we had cultivated for over five years - we closed the gate early, ready for lock up any time. We were all in before 6p.m. so that there would be no case of latecoming, and we were having supper. Then four guys burst into our compound and hold a gun to my mother's head. After almost two hours, they left, but not empty - handed. They went with four laptops, and six phones (everyone seemed to have two - my mum had three, but they dropped the last one at the gate). They locked us up in the library, but quick - thinking made me insist that my brother remove the key to the second door, and hide

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL , U S - PLEASE READ

1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers f

Updates from Johns Hopkins Medical Center

When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. 2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3. When the person's immune syste m is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. 4. Work! Work! Work!

Everyday, I wake up tired... I sleepwalk through my morning routine - brush my teeth, bath, dress up, grab my laptop bag, and go out on the road. Most times the day hasn't even begun to dawn yet. I grab an okada, to the major busstop, then enter a danfo bus, or most times, an 'agege bread' bus - those ones that have raised roofs inside, that make you think that they were constructed only for tall, long people. I finally 'wake up' around 8.00 am, and its a good thing because work starts at 9.00. I leave by 6.00pm, and take another okada to another major bus park to board the convenient means of transport that our governor has so kindly disrupted our lives to provide - BRT. I play sudoku on my phone throughout the bus ride (I admit, sometimes I doze off, but I always try to get a window seat so I can at least lean on the sill). Then I take another okada to my home. Most times I get home by 8.30pm, but I could be early and arrive at 7.45pm. After two months of this, I

I just fell in love...

I just fell in love...with Obama. I had not been opportuned to listen to any of his speeches until I was invited to join the Obama group on Facebook. I just checked out the group, and clicked this video - and fell in love. Had goosebumps crawling allover my body all through. I watched it once, then again, and again. Even though I do not live in America, I think the world could use a leader like that. I am only scared that what has happened to such voices in the world - those that get heard, those that are revolutionary, and those that speak for the masses, might happen to him. Let us pray for Barack Obama - He will need it. The video is here: obama speech - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yq0tMYPDJQ

Bundle of joy

Yesterday I attended a naming ceremony of a friend. The Genesis of that is a long one, but let me try and summarize it. She got pregnant in her fourth year. Her boyfriend decided the best thing to do was get married - that is rare these days, as there are many abortion doctors available. You would think it ended well - guy marries girl, they finish school, and apart from their certificates, have also a certificate in parenthood, but no, it didn't end that way. Her parents refused to let her marry him because of religion. I know what you are thinking - muslim guy to christian girl (or vice versa), right? Wrong. She is from a Jehovah Witness home, and he is from an Anglican home. That should not cause any friction, since they are both Christians, right? Wrong! Her parents sent her out. But God was on her side - my whole (my aunt took her in, catered for her) family stood by her - attended the naming ceremony of her baby girl yesterday. My mum and I had tears in our eyes, we were so f

HELP AN ORPHAN THIS VALENTINE!

I know that many of us will be planning a lovely outing on Thursday - Valentine's Day, but I am hoping that we will also remember those that cannot enjoy the things we take for granted like walking...dancing...using our hands and even fingers. The Octopus Events is currently subsidizing the prices for Dominion Honey's 75 cl bottled honey(sealed and branded). The current price is N870, of which 5% is going to be donated to Hearts of Gold Children Hospice and Orphanage, Ikeja, Lagos state. Hearts of Gold Chilren's Hospice is the first children's hospice and respite care facility in Nigeria. The house opened it does in October 2003 in response to a steadily increasing number of abandoned and orphaned sick children suffering from a vast range of illnesses. These illnesses have the potential to end their lives in a matter of days, weeks, months or sometimes years. For each of theses children with a terminal of like limiting illnesses, the hospice offers comfortable, caring a

Dangers of the hand held mobile phone

Don't know how far this is true, but there is no harm in being aware... Where do you keep your Handphone normally? This morning I heard a true and sad story from a colleague of mine. She told me one of her friends is always having miscarriages. When the baby gets to be 2-3 months old she loses it. This happened several times over. The couple went to check with many doctors and at last one of the doctors examined the dead baby and found that the baby's body cells kept dying as the baby was growing in the womb until he/she could not survive. This was because her uterus was affected by HANDPHONE RADIATION. The doctor told her she now has no chance to give birth to a healthy baby because the radiation has affected her uterus so that the major portion of the cells in her uterus have already died. This happened because she has been keeping her handphone in her working jacket so that the phone rested against just the right spot for the uterus. She had been wearing it like this for a f

Valentine's Day

Love...what is love? Love is seeing that old lady carrying a heavy bag, and rushing forward to help her with it - unconscious action to aid another person . Love is sitting in a bus and waiting two hours for it to fill up, then giving your seat to a woman with a baby on her back, because the remaining space is not condusive for her. Love is knowing your friend is very low and cash, and taking action to help out by sharing the little you have . Love is ensuring that those around you are happy, by doing all you can to make life better for them . Love is praying for people around you - even those that you cannot remember their surnames, that all their needs be met, each and every day. Love is knowing you might not achieve all you set out to do in a day, but also knowing that helping others reach their goal is even better than if you had. Love is keeping a smile on your face for others to gain warmth from even though you are sad. Love is self-sacrificing . Love is all-encompassing . An

OBSERVATIONS pt1- Travel

From time to time, I will be putting up observations of life in Naija like this.......ENJOY IN A TRAIN IN A NEW YORK SUBWAY, a young man who entered at the last stop searches for a seat. He notices a heavily - made up woman sitting with her large handbag....no bag (because she could not have been able to carry it for long on only one hand)...on the seat beside her.He approaches her and stops right in front of her, bending a little to speak to her. Young man: Good day Ma'am. Please is the seat taken? Woman: No its not. You can have your seat. Young man: Thank you very much Ma'am. IN A MOLUE BUS IN OSHODI, LAGOS, a young student enters as the bus keeps moving and walks the aisle quickly, in search of a seat. He spots one in a row in front, and heads there immediately. An old fat woman is seating with her large sack (Super Bagco super sack) right on the seat beside her. Student: Abeg madam, I wan siddon. Woman: where u wan siddon? For hia? Go find ur own seat jare! Student: madam
