Fab - ulous Tips

Hey Everyone! Yes I know I deserve some spanking for having such a long haitus, and will turn around for it as soon as I finish typing this, I promise [fingers crossed at my back]. I just had to share this great find - I have not seen words of wisdom for Startups and Aspiring Entreprenuers this brief and to the point yet. Its about Fab.com, and their instant success since starting 130 days ago [yes you read right!]. They presently have 750,000 members and 3 million hits on their site per month [I just added to that list, so make it 3 million and 1]. And most importantly, they have $100,000 sales days - very important to the Nigerian Entrepreneur I am sure! They share a set of slides for us to learn the major 21 things they have learnt so far, that keeps them growing. I am sure my Entrepreneur friends and family members will appreciate this. Please take the time to read through - its just 21 points after all :) Click this sentence

NYSC Alawe

I really am tired of waiting and waiting for the monthly allowance that NYSC is supposed to pay me.... that was what was running through my head last week. I was just praying to God for favour, the type that a friend of mine got from baba God that he arranged his flat rent fees from nowhere. Anyway, I got to the LG office to submit my monthly clearance forms, and was trying to figure out how to broach the subject, when one of the ladies just looked at me and asked, "Are you really in a rush?" Of course I said no. She told me to finish the submission process and return to her. It turned out that she wanted bread and milo and milk. See how God works - the women in that office are very unpredictable and some of them were already having moody expressions on their faces. I had even given up on who to approach, when God just put her in my debt. Of course I refused to collect any money from her - what is two hundred naira compared to my three months allowance? beancakes! I went in s

I AM THANKFUL

I look out the car window and smile...Why am I thankful? I have just begun, really, but maybe....It is the end of something, and the beginning of another...I have just ended orientation camp, and have in fact come back loaded...with Malaria, Typhoid, Chesty cough and Catarrh. I am in the process of serving my country, for a year. And to make things more beautiful, I was posted to teach. But I am thankful..... I am thankful. Some people are serving their country at the war front. Some are serving their country by helping out at the tsunami relief spots. Some don't even have a country to serve, and are refugees who do not know if they would see the next meal. I am thankful. I have two eyes, two ears, two legs, two arms, ten fingers, ten toes, one nose, and one mouth. My mind is full of memories..... My life has been enriched with so many new friendships, so many experiences. I am thankful. I can still smile, nobody died in my absence, there was no coup to take over the government

Good Samaritan

Are there any more Good Samaritans in this world? Something happened to me today - I got to the office and remembered that I had to buy airtime onto the phone I use to browse. I dropped all, took some money, and practically ran to the store that sells the cards. I got there, placed an order, and then dipped my hands into my pocket, and drew empty. I traced my path back to the office, and noticed some oddities. There is a phone kiosk on the way to the store, and while I was hurrying past, there were a lot of guys standing by it. When I passed, they hushed up, and I was thinking it was because of my hair do (yeah I had my hair done on Friday, didn't want to enter the new month looking that raggedy). As I retraced my steps, I noticed that they were not there - only seconds later. Even the guard that I had greeted five seconds earlier had disappeared. It didn't take all of five seconds, all of it. And the money was gone. Thinking I had left it in my hurry in the office, I went stra

I am tired of these pranksters. The latest trick is to plan with other people to convince you to drop some money. Its annoying. Imagine this scenario: you enter a general cab car, containing other passengers, and before you get to the next bus stop, someone opts to alight, requesting that the driver assist in dropping his luggage in the boot. The driver begins questioning the contents of the passenger's bag, insisting that it contains a lot of dollars and he would report to the police if the person does not confess. Sounds like a good l Samaritan who wants to know if the money is stolen, right? Wrong! If you fall into their trap, you are doomed. The sequence always starts from there, then they talk about sharing the money, or the culprit 'settling' them so they keep quiet. Then before you know it, you are also dropping some money and that's where the duping is. Someone - a friend of a friend, dropped thirty thousand naira, and he never saw them again. I got picked up
